At our academy, we get lots of kids who are into this game, and as I was looking into our database, I noticed that 100% of these kids end up joining us during the 2 week trial! 🤯
So I couldn’t help but wonder…is there a correlation between kids who enjoy Fortnite and like martial arts classes?🤔
As many of the kids know, they also are aware that I do in fact play the game too 😂 lol so I know the ins and outs of what it entails.
So in this post I’m going to break down the top 3 reasons why I believe kids who enjoy Fortnite enjoy martial arts classes!
Similar to any game really, martial arts provides a progression or level up system. Kids have to know certain moves and material in order to get to the next rank, improve their “experience points”, and eventually get proficient at a technique. Seeing a tangible change in their body and how they move is an addictive feeling ( a healthy one) and can translate to other areas of life too!
At Functional Taekwondo, we always encourage kids to think outside the box. We aren’t a very “traditional” martial arts school, where is 1 solution to a problem. We always adress different variables of what could go right or wrong in both a competitive sense and self defense (hence, the reason we call our school “Functional” Taekwondo).
We do a variety of team based exercises and drills that require kids to learn to work together to achieve a goal. In Fortnite, relying on your team to heal you when you get knocked down is crucial for winning the game. If you leave a teammate behind, there’s a good chance you’ll end up being outnumbered and losing. Kids are encouraged to support their fellow classmates so everyone can succeed together.
So if your kids really like Fortnite, you may want to give martial arts a try! We do a risk-free two week trial for anyone who wants to get a feel of our academy
